In her own words:
All my life I have battled a weight problem. I've tried countless fad diet plans and programs with no significant results. I also could never find an exercise program I enjoyed.
A few years ago I began Weight Watchers and saw some results, but again hit a plateau and didn't want to gain back what I had lost. Some friends kept talking about CrossFit and how wonderful Flower City CrossFit was. I personally thought there was no way I would ever be able to do that and I was in NO shape to try anything like it. Then one day, we were talking about how my kids' Saturday gymnastics program ended and my friend said to bring the kids to CrossFit Kids at FCCF. "They would love it!" she said. Then she told me that while the kids went to CrossFit kids, I could do a Bootcamp class at FCCF. I actually went that first night thinking the KIDS would do it, but I probably would not.
When I walked in that day I was TERRIFIED and definitely thought I was in the WRONG place. There were people on the rig doing pull-ups, others were lifting weights and all kinds of things were going on! We brought the kids into their class and then it was my turn. I wanted desperately to say no, was literally shaking and trying to get out of it but didn't, and actually couldn't leave with the kids in the back doing their class! I officially completed my first Bootcamp in June 2012. After the kids were done they said, “We want to do this every week!” so I figured it was time to get myself signed up too! If they were going to be here, I should be here too. Actually, I was a bit excited about it which really surprised me.
That ONE event changed my life. I stayed in Bootcamp classes awhile because I was too scared to transition to CrossFit. Luckily the trainers encouraged me and I did. Now it is 2.5 years later since I started Bootcamp (and 2 years since I started doing regular CrossFit classes).
Another big change for me was my way of eating. I heard about the “caveman” style of eating but thought Paleo was NEVER going to work for me. I was wrong again. I slowly worked that into my first-generation Italian life and just finished an 8-week strict 100% paleo challenge! During this last challenge, I lost an additional 10 lbs to my weight loss and 17 inches! That brings me now to a total of 60 lbs. and 40.25 inches lost since starting at FCCF! I have done it slowly, but consistently and comfortably while raising my family and enjoying my life.
The three most important things I incorporated into my life are a combination of CrossFit workouts, Advocare vitamins/supplements and Paleo Clean eating. I am TRUE LIVING PROOF that if I CAN DO THIS, ANYONE CAN do it. EVERYTHING IS SCALABLE in CrossFit, so it does NOT matter what experience you have – remember I had zero! The personal attention you get from trainers at all of the classes at FCCF is amazing and they care about you! This is a community that no matter what skill level you are at, you can feel comfortable and supported. For me it has become a second family, from trainers to the other members! And my kids are still loving CrossFit Kids too! I hope to inspire some people by sharing my story!
